Economic Reform

"I believe that, with smart policy, we can both grow jobs and industry without compromising the environment."

We say it over and over again because it’s true: Our middle class is disappearing. Decades of policies that favor the upper class and starve the middle and lower classes have made life for the average American very difficult. Over the past 30 years, the hourly wage of the median worker has increased by 9.8%. The top 1% of earners have seen gains of 36%. It’s time for economic justice in Illinois.

Illinois is one of seven states in America with an income tax that is not graduated. By switching to a graduated, progressive income tax, we could put more money in the pockets of people who really need it while raising revenue for the state. This extra revenue could help us seriously address the pension and budget shortfalls that are stagnating our economy and harming our state.

Along with these reforms, we need to fight for a living wage that keeps up with inflation and to preserve our Unions. Illinois’ economy is built on the backs of the working class, and we need an economic system that reflects this.
